Serving children in the child welfare & juvenile justice systems

The child welfare and juvenile justice systems care for 500,000 children each year. The child welfare system provides care to children who have been abused or neglected or are considered at risk for abuse and neglect and may have been removed from their biological or birth family home. The juvenile justice system oversees children who have been charged with a crime. Many of these youth, who have a greater incidence of comorbid conditions and trauma, receive their health care from Medicaid. In this video Nicole Truhe, Senior Director of Policy, Medicaid, discusses the features that are necessary to effectively serve this population and why managed care is best suited to provide that support.
