UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Arizona earns 4-star NCQA

UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Arizona (Arizona Physicians IPA, Inc.) is committed to providing equitable, high-quality care for Medicaid populations. The health plan achieved a 4-star rating from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), placing as the top-rated Medicaid health maintenance organization (HMO) in the state. This year also marked the first year that the health plan received a rating from NCQA. The rating was announced as part of NCQA’s Medicaid Health Plan Ratings 2024. The annual list evaluates health plans on nearly 50 assessments of patient care outcomes and experiences.1

Since earning NCQA Health Plan Accreditation in the Medicaid module as well as a Long-Term Services & Supports Distinction in 2023, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Arizona continues to prioritize the health and well-being of underserved populations. This year’s 4 out of 5-star rating highlights the plan's ongoing efforts to improve health outcomes, increase patient satisfaction and deliver care that is both effective and equitable.

Plan ratings

The health plan's 4-star rating reflects three composite measures2:

  • Patient experience, including categories such as getting care, satisfaction with plan physicians, and satisfaction with plan and plan services
  • Prevention and equity, including categories such as childhood and adolescent well-care, women’s reproductive health, cancer screening, equity, and other preventive services
  • Treatment, including categories such as respiratory, diabetes, heart disease, and behavioral health

Within those three measures are specific measures, each rated 0 to 5 stars. These were highlighted by 5 out of 5 star measures in certain measures like rating of health plan and rating of care.

Commitment to excellence

UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Arizona’s success in achieving these metrics highlights its dedication to improving the quality of care for Medicaid beneficiaries. The NCQA rating is a reflection of the plan's ongoing strategic focus on health equity, patient satisfaction and coordinated care. As the health plan continues to enhance its services, it remains committed to driving positive health outcomes and making a meaningful impact in the lives of Arizona’s Medicaid population.
