Rocky Mountain Health Plans achieves Health Equity Accreditation
Rocky Mountain Health Plans (RMHP), a UnitedHealthcare company, has been recognized for its commitment to promoting access to equitable, high-quality health care. The health plan was recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) with Health Equity Accreditation. NCQA is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of health care across the nation.1 In addition to achieving Health Equity Accreditation, RMHP is honored to be the only Medicaid plan in Colorado to receive Health Plan Accreditation from NCQA along with a 4-star Health Plan rating in 2023.
NCQA’s Health Equity Accreditation evaluates how well organizations meet rigorous standards in areas including organizational readiness, demographic data collection; access to language services, and reducing health care disparities. This recognition demonstrates that RMHP maintains an equitable internal culture, offers comprehensive language services and is proactive in identifying and addressing health inequities. These achievements align with State of Colorado’s vision and mission to create a health care delivery system that addresses health disparities by ensuring that everyone matters.2 It also highlights RMHP’s long-standing dedication to advancing health equity for its members and strengthening the health system serving Colorado.
Advancing health equity requires an intentional focus on understanding the inequities and barriers that contribute to disparities in access to care and health outcomes. RMHP has made equity a culture priority through Ambassadors for Belonging, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (ABIDE).
ABIDE is a group of team members that strives to build an intentionally inclusive culture among employees, members, and the extended community. ABIDE members participate in discussions and community outreach with the goal of understanding and addressing systemic barriers.
Strong partnerships with local organizations and providers are foundational to advancing equity. These relationships aim to address social drivers of health, like access to healthy food and housing, to improve health outcomes at a local level. Community organizations like the Western Slope Native American Resource Center close disparities in the community by improving access to culturally responsive services and resources.
