UnitedHealthcare is taking action to improve access to care and address social drivers of health (SDOH) for communities across Washington with a $1 million grant. The grants support six local organizations in addressing SDOH, expanding access to care, and improving health equity throughout the state. Grant recipients include:
- Food Lifeline, which received $300,000 to improve access to nutritious and culturally-relevant foods in diverse communities throughout western Washington.
- Consejo Counseling and Referral Service, which received $200,000 to deliver holistic, culturally-appropriate wellness services to behavioral health clients.
- Chinese Information and Service Center, which received $180,000 to increase programming serving immigrants, older adults and families, aimed at reducing social isolation and promoting community engagement.
- Volunteers of America Eastern Washington, which received $150,000 to support behavioral health programming and case management for individuals experiencing housing insecurity.
- Step By Step, which received $100,000 to expand home visitation, perinatal mental health, and maternity support services.
- National Alliance on Mental Illness Spokane, which received $70,000 to bring mental health training to schools and youth organizations, with the goal of generating awareness about youth mental health and ways to access support.
UnitedHealthcare's Empowering Health commitment, launched in 2018, has now invested more than $62 million in grants to reach nearly 11 million people through its partnerships with community-based organizations. This commitment is supported by UnitedHealth Group, including UnitedHealthcare and Optum, and its affiliated companies, which are dedicated to advancing health equity and building healthier communities. UnitedHealth Group has contributed a total of over $9.8 million to communities in Washington over the last three years.
