Dr. Julie Morial is a native New Orleanian who received her undergraduate degree at Yale University, her medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania, served as a resident in primary care internal medicine at Northwestern University and studied public health, health policy and administration at the University of California-Berkeley. Dr Morial was a National Health Services scholar who has been engaged with serving disenfranchised and vulnerable populations most of her 30 year career in medicine. She has worked with Health Care for the Homeless, staffed one of the initial HIV clinics in the US, delivered primary care at Kaiser Permanente for 15 years and held numerous leadership roles including Chief of Utilization Management at Kaiser, Director of Disease Management for the Medical Center of Louisiana and Medical Director for commercial and Medicare Advantage programs. Dr. Morial currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer for UnitedHealthcare Community Plan on Louisiana. During her three year tenure at UnitedHealthcare Community & State, she has served as a thought leader in the clinical enterprise with a focus on perinatal continuum initiatives, behavioral health medical integration, health disparities, health equity, population health and fostering community engagement throughout Louisiana.
