Suzy Sonnier

Suzy Sonnier is a dynamic leader with more than 20 years of experience advocating for healthcare, human services and education. She is especially passionate about driving results within complex systems through shared strategies, innovative thinking and focused execution. As a Regional Growth Office for UnitedHealthcare Community and State, Sonnier is responsible for developing and executing growth strategies for all Medicaid markets in the Central Region. Prior to this role, Sonnier served as the Vice President of Strategy and Development for UnitedHealthcare Community and State supporting the Tennessee and Kentucky markets. Sonnier previously served as the founding Executive Director of the Baton Rouge Health District. In her role, she worked with hospital administrators, government agencies, community leaders and healthcare professionals creating a unified medical community to coordinate investment decisions, enhance care in the region, facilitate economic development and position Baton Rouge as a healthcare destination. Sonnier previously served as Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services where she managed Louisiana's child welfare, child support enforcement, disability determination services and low-income economic assistance programs. Prior to that she was Chief Operations Officer for the Louisiana Workforce Commission, Deputy Secretary for the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services and Director of Policy for the Louisiana Department of Health. She holds a Master of Science in Public Administration from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. In 2021 Sonnier was recognized as one of the Nashville Medical News 2021 Women to Watch as well as a recipient of the 2021 Health Care Innovation Awards honorees by the Nashville Business Journal. Sonnier is a graduate of the Nashville Health Care Council 2020 Fellows program and currently serves on the Chattanooga Interagency Council on Homeless and Chattanooga FUSE Advisory Council.
